Hungry Horace
Sorry I don't fully understand oil grades. I'm up in Cheshire with about 250 miles to get home tomorrow and used up my supply of 5w50 (car is CSR 260).Can I put in 0.5-1 litre of 5w40 (which is probably what I can buy on a Sunday morning) to get me home? Or must I stick strictly to 5w50?Thanks in advance for any advice.
ScottR400D
That'll be fine, though if you can get to a Halfords you'll probably get a 5/50. The grade isn't critical within reason. Make sure it's a synthetic
Hungry Horace
Thanks that was very reassuring, and I'll bear in mind if I'm ever caught short again. Turns out Halfords don't stock 5w50 even on their website but they did point me to an excellent local shop, Thompsons in Macclesfield, who had a container of 5w50 for special occasions.
