David_Stamp
Spare wheel maximum size - will a 13" x 8" Apollo fit on Caterham Spare Wheel Carrier? My Roadsport has been recently changed from 14" standard wheels to 13" Apollo wheels plus Avon ZZS tyres. I know that a 13" x 6" Apollo wheel and suitable tyre will fit on the normal Caterham spare wheel carrier, but can a 13" x 8" Apollo wheel fit instead? If the 13" x 8" wheel does fit, is it only with a lower width Avon ZZS (e.g. the 185 width, rather than the normal for Caterhams 215 for 8" wheels)? Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted May 10, 2022 Leadership Team Share Posted May 10, 2022 The spare wheel carrier is designed to take a 6" wheel, it's doubtful whether a spare 8" wheel would fit even with a narrower tyre. Also, if you carry a rear wheel (8") spare it won't fit on the front if you have a puncture, hence the reason for carrying a spare front which will also fit the rear.Stu. aerobod - near CYYC
I'm assuming the question is in regard to what you do with a 13x8 rear wheel after a puncture, after putting the 13x6 spare wheel on the back and not being forced to leave it at the side of the road, or leaving the passenger at the side of the road so the rear wheel can ride in their seat? K7 VCT
My first 7 had 16 inch wheels with 205 width tyres which fitted snuggly in the carrier. Unless I need glasses, did you say fitting a 185 on an 8 inch rim ????? Think that's not a good idea
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted May 10, 2022 Leadership Team Share Posted May 10, 2022 I also had 16" HPC wheels for a time on my previous car, those were designed to fit both front and rear so would also fit the spare wheel carrier. As far as I'm aware Caterham haven't produced a model as standard with 8" rear wheels together with a carrier and I doubt the Y-piece would actually retain an 8" wheel?
