And you could fit a bell tank on a wet sump car albeit you will need a different clutch fork. 21Jigsaw had a batch of the bell tanks for sale a while ago.

do you have any details of how the bell tank wet sump plumbing works (diagram)?

Im putting together parts for a dry sump system, purchased a bell tank from 21jigsaw and what you refer to could be a "half way house"

Fitting a belltank will not require any plumbing changes to the standard wet sump setup which is internal to the engine itself.  
You'll need a dry sump clutch fork because the standard clutch fork won't fit, and you'll need to either make a plate to cover the large rectangular hole in the top of the tank, or you might be able to pick up an original belltank old style cover plate. There's a few other holes in the belltank that you'll need to plug until you complete the dry sump install just to keep the tank clean internally.
