Doc007
Just noticed a small radiator leak on my 2016 Duratec. Not noticed the coolant dropping. Photo taken at full temperature with fan running. Can it be left? Can it be fixed (if so any recommendations as to where, preferably in Surrey)?Anyone got a good spare? Thanks
ScottR400D
Par for the course. When I built my car in 2015 the first three radiators I was sent all had leaks like yours. I gave up with CC and had one of them repaired by a race car rad specialist in Brackley. 7 years later it's fine. I think the radiators are fundamentally OK but, certainly around 14, 15, 16 they were just poorly put together with no testing. I still have a new spare from 2015 but I've not yet bothered to have it fixed, so it still has a leaky weld! So I don't know anyone in Surrey but they are fixable. You can leave if you like but it's not going to get better.
Doc007
I had heard similar reports about the radiators. Guess I'm lucky mine has lasted 6yrs! It's £366 for a new one. Anyone with experience of a better quality aftermarket replacement?I'll look in to a local radiator repairer.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted February 9, 2022 Member Share Posted February 9, 2022 When you're taking it out I recommend having a good look at the brackets and holes/ slots. Mounting it shouldn't put any bending or twisting loads on the radiator, and this seems to have been a factor in many failures. Jonathan
Doc007
Spoke to a couple of local guys that were a little put off by it being aluminium. Said if it's in the right place they can effectively glue it. Turns out a subsidiary of Guildford Radiators supplies Caterham with the OE radiators! rkeywood
If Tunbridge Wells is not too far then give Radiator Repairers Bryan and Son a ring. He's an old school genius who can usually bring any old or modern radiator back to life. Also fixes car and bike petrol tanks....Robert
