Front Hub

Uprating the front calipers to 4 pot and vented discs. Looked in assembly manual but cant find hub nut torque and are the front hub bearings ball or taper. Thanks

I suggest starting with GTKY7 4: "Front wheel bearings".

They are taper roller bearings.  There is no torque setting - do them up just enough to get rid of play.  If split pin does not line up undo slightly to line up. Beware of doing up too tight

The official Caterham guidance for the front hub nut is as follows:

'Torque castellated nut to 8lb/ft or 11Nm. Back off nut if required until castellation lines up with a split pin hole in the stub axle.'

Give the wheel a spin to settle the bearings.

Check for any play by grasping the fitted wheel at 12 & 6 o'clock & rocking vertically.

It may be found that backing off the nut will reduce the bearing pre load to a point where there may be play. If so the alternative is to tighten the nut to the next hole. If the next hole is within one castellation then this should be fine.

Check for play again BEFORE fitting split pin.

Fit the split pin in the safest way - head either to top or facing forward. The pin holes are usually horizontal & vertical.

Thank you guys I had a feeling they were taper rollers by the castellated nut.  
 

Have removed hub now. No dustcap over castellated nut so wasn't sure.

Your 2019 car will have the uprated stub axles, along with larger sealed bearings.

While you're in there, do check the amount of grease. For details and torque info, see this Guide.

Lots of people suggest doing them up without any pre-load, but that really does reduce the life of them. Pre-load spreads the loading evenly around all the rollers - it's a 'cruel to be kind' type mentality, so take Caterham's advice and pre-load them to the 8NM.
