DanRo
Hello POBC I need to take out the engine mount to mounting rubber bolt to remove some shim washers. The cap head size is between the H8 & H10 sockets which I have. Does anyone know the socket size needed so I can buy the correct one? I know it may be imperial. The torque setting for replacing the bolt would be very useful too...Thanks in advance for any knowledge.Dan

Member Jonathan Kay Posted January 15, 2022 Member Share Posted January 15, 2022 Which chassis?Sizes and torque settings are in Shaun's bolt list. (That's a downloadable Excel file.)Please let me know if you'd like the appropriate Assembly Guide.Jonathan
DanRo
Thanks bothStu - 8mm & 10mm hex head sockets with which are respectively too small and too large for the bolts. It looks like the sizing is not evenly between the 2 and so they may be an imperial size rather than a 9mm? JK - thanks. I have checked the assembly guides on the club website and Shaun's bolt list but I can't find what hex socket size I need for these bolts. I just wanted to know if there was a known size before I buy a railfull of sockets.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted January 15, 2022 Member Share Posted January 15, 2022 According to Shaun's list for an Imperial chassis that's 1/2" bolt diameter. But what are the bolt heads? You describe them as "cap head" but then say "socket size". Do you need a male hex key or a socket?Jonathan
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted January 15, 2022 Leadership Team Share Posted January 15, 2022 The Imperial size between 8mm and 10mm is likely to be 3/8" AF, although I don't recall there being anything so small in the engine mount area.Stu. John Vine
The caphead bolts are 1/2" x 2 1/2" UNF, and you'll need a 3/8” hex bit socket to remove them. If you happen to have a 3/8" Allen key, you could cut a length off that instead.ETA: Torque to 41Nm.JV
DanRo
Sorry - confusingly termed I appreciate - I meant Allen head. I'm out with the family at the moment so can't send any pics (or direct enough attention to writing accurate descriptions!) I want to undo the bolts specified and I don't know what size of Allen/ hex socket to use. I've tried an 8mm and a 10mm size and the one I need is somewhere in between. Thanks for the 3/8 A/F suggestion Stu. I'll be re-using the bolts so I don't need to know the dimensions of these, just to remove them. thanks againDan
