John Pattison
What is the best way to attach this? Mine just fell off! Screws or double sided tape or what?Advice appreciated.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted January 6, 2022 Member Share Posted January 6, 2022 Many of us use tape, either double-sided or heavy duty hook and eye.Surface preparation is very important, and adhesives work much better when they're warm!Jonathan

TobyB
I use this, works a treat and has never fallen off (although remove number plate while on track, it's not that good!!)https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00DF03VQM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_image?ie=UTF8&psc=

opplock
"adhesives work much better when they're warm"Don't try sticking a number plate on to two sided tape with temperature less than 10 degrees. I speak from experience but I did find the plate two days later while out on a bike ride.
Zydna
Strong Velcro worked well so far on mineAlso makes changing from 3/4 size to full size quick and easy, should the need arise
Andy135
Possibly a silly question, but is there a reason why a vinyl number plate can't be stuck across the top of the nose cone instead of a hard plate underneath the grille? I'm sure I've seen this done in the past, but not sure if it's legally permissible?
TomB
I've glued mine on with a bead or two of sikaflex.

Roger Ford
#9 vinyl plates will not conform to the necessary regulations. Many people get away with them but there's a small risk.I don't consider Dual-Lock secure enough for a front number plate, particularly if used on track when debris (or gravel!) might hit it. I have rivnuts in the nosecone and hold the number plate on with two M5 screws. Easy to remove for racing but very secure when fitted.
Handwheels
I've used 2 small pieces of 3M dual lock velcro along the top edge of the plate so that it sits just below the grill. I have also stuck a couple of pieces of plastic angle towards the lower edge of the plate to stop it 'peeling' off the velcro at speed. The angles are aligned with the bottom of the oil cooler grill - my 420R kit came with this slightly new style of nose cone last June. It's a legally sized 5 digit plate. So far done almost 1900 miles and reg plate has been rock steady - despite my initial scepticism that such a small amount of velcro (which isn't even on a flat surface on the nose cone) would be sufficient.. Drumster
2 x 50mm strips of 3M dual lock good enough for 120mph along Goodwood's Lavant Straight
Neil220
I don't know what regulation makes bonnet mounted number plates illegal, maybe they should be mounted verticaly?Mines been like this for about 9 years and never had any issues at MOT times. Member Jonathan Kay Posted January 7, 2022 Member Share Posted January 7, 2022 Yes. they should be fixed "vertically or, where that is not reasonably practicable, in a position as close to the vertical as is reasonably practicable.".As above: I'm not aware of any problems at MoT inspections or with police actions.Jonathan

BigCol
I have two thin strips of super-strength Velcro that coincide with my stripes (and so would be invisible if I removed the plate) .Photo is before adding them.
