Eriedor
I'm trying to remove the fuel filler neck and it simply won't budge (scared of breaking something from the force it's taking). I've removed the 6 screws that secure the outer cap to the inner neck but both refuse to come away from the rear alu panel. Reading the archives all I can find on the subject suggests the cork gasket you can see in the first picture should of been on the outside. Has this bonded the neck to the alu panel and I just gotta force it off or is there something I'm missing?
Alastair B
Could try dental floss as a saw between the cork and panel?
Wrightpayne
There is a large O ring between the ally outer part and the steel filler neck. I wonder if this has stuck. Two suggestionsBit of WD40 between outer ally part and rear skin and filler neck and rear skin to get some onto the rubber O ring. WD40 should be OK on paint - perhaps test on an inconspicuous bit first.Have you tried pulling the filler neck / twisting it side to side or up and down? I think if I were going to use force, I'd slip something between the filler neck and ally back panel inside the boot - a putty knife or cutlery knife. The logic being the back panel will be pushed against the outer ally collar of the filler so unlikely to deform. Obviously do at your own risk. Any lever inserted on the outside risks slipping and scratching the paint.
Eriedor
Finally got it off, sprayed some WD40 penetrant which loosened up the cork gasket nicely but the inner O ring was still holding on tight, took quite a lot of force to finally bring them apart! WobblyWeb
From the first pic it looks like your filler neck still has the safety flap in it. Now it's off the car (or easy to take off again) it's worth removing, if you have trouble at the pumps.....? Eriedor
Thanks for the heads up, I have seen that in the archives, never had a problem filling up thought so will leave it for now.
