Gridgway
In my taking apart and putting back together project for my crossflow, I have a probable gearbox issue with the 4 speed escort box. I took the CRB and release arm off and there is (or was) a plastic sleeve on the post that the release arm pivots on.I have 2 of the bits of the sleeve, but no idea how to remedy the problem. It looks like I need a new sleeve and need to whack, I mean press out the pin, put a new sleeeve on and press it back in again.Anyone got any experience of this or suggestions please? It might function ok without the sleeve, but I can't take the risk!Cheers Graham
Wrightpayne
On the 5/6 speed box its just a bit of washer tube pressed over the pin to stop the fork rattling.
Gridgway
Yes looks like it's called an anti-rattle tube and I was thinking that some plastic hose would do.
rkeywood
I'd fit a new anti-rattle sleeve - the pin shouldn't be take much effort to remove and Ford OE sleeves cost about £1. Both pin and sleeve are readily available from the likes of Burton PowerR

Gridgway
Thanks. Just in from the garage, removed the pin and was just about to re-look and found it on Burton power as you said!Problem solved!
rkeywood
That's good. Worth getting a new pin as well. Also, there may well be (or should be) a washer between the sleeve and bell housing; I can't remember if the iron and aluminium bell housings are the same. Check the sleeve length against that of the pin from the shoulder to the top.R
Gridgway
Yes, I'll get a new pin as well. I think with the iron bellhousing there isn't a washer as it doesn't wear like the aluminium one does.
rkeywood
You're right, the iron bellhousing doesn't need the washer with the OE pin but, if I recall correctly, the last pin I bought from Burton needed the washer when fitted in the iron housing as well. They list the washer so worth calling them or just buying in case.R
