Road Tyres

From all the posts I have read the 185/70R13 Uniroyal Rain Sports / Rain Experts are the 'car' tyre of choice. If I was looking for a general use, touring tyre which is good if caught in the wet I'd go for these on the seven.

I have put the appropriate load rated version on my VW Transporter and am very pleased with them albeit not a useful comparison for the seven!!

All road legal tyres (with plenty of tread) will be fine in the rain, it's a light car so if you hit standing water you're going to aquaplane more easily though so something to be aware of. Track oriented tyres tend to be softer but will displace water very well, the big difference with non-track oriented tyres is that they will likely last a lot longer ... and probably go even harder!

Today I expect the weather in Essex is much as it is in Herts and Cambs and I assure you that the Uniroyals gave me not a moment's worry this morning. But I was driving respectfully and not seeing if I could test their grip.  There was, and surely still is, plenty of standing water, there were streams crossing road surfaces and puddles galore.  Not a fun drive but really nice to spend some time with my sister and her family.

A question from a confused person

Current tyres are 185 60 R13 front and 205 60 R13 rear Toyo R888's which i have had for a long time (different tyres same make) and have served me well. They last well they operate OK on the odd occasion i've been caught in rain.

I need to change tyres Uniroyals dont offer these sizes and neither do Avon in ZZs. (185/55 and 215/55 Any opinions on next choice

Toyo hard to find although feasible but is there something better for all year dry use? I presume there's been improvements in design and tech over the last couple of years?

Yokohama? profile seems to be 70 not 60 which should be fine

Any other contenders. I've got about 3 weeks to sort them out but i'm getting stumped in my research

Unfortunately the experiences and recommendations are scattered all over the place.

It might be worth looking at what's been written about Nankang NS-2Rs:
