Terry Field
The current fuel idiocy has got me thinking about E10 again. One of our garages ran out of E5 Super-unleaded strangely, and only had E10 left. Before the advent of E10 I had a TR 6 and I always used an additive for the fuel - in this case it was a product called EthanolmateIt is still available and advertises itself mainly as an anti corrosive, but does not protect against ‘incompatibility of materials’ whatever that means. So, is there any wisdom out there about the use and effectiveness of additives with E10, and, in particular which, if any, are likely to be safe and effective?i

Member Jonathan Kay Posted October 2, 2021 Member Share Posted October 2, 2021 Mine's a 1998 1800K. After they rebuilt the engine Ratrace recommended 98 octane petrol, although I don't know why. I follow their advice.I wouldn't worry about using E10 fuel in it. But I do consider the fuel line in Sevens to be at risk of wearing out, and there's lots of support for that in the archives...I'm not aware of any evidence of either safety or effectiveness for that sort of additive, and I wouldn't use it.Jonathan
Peter G
Just to add to this and to save a new post, Eurocarparts latest email has Wynns E10 protector and I was wondering if anyone had used it or could provide any narrative on this or other additives effectiveness? ACFowles
Agreed Jonathan.I'm asking myself the question "if there was a simple additive that eliminated all of the issues of E10, and also reduced friction & cleaned the engine, then why isn't it already in the fuel?" StevehS3
#10 cost and not required for most cars. Given the complete lack of Super E5 in our area it's a choice of E10, E10 with an additive or SORN.
