CWilson184
Hi All, I have a 2016 ex academy and it has just failed it's MOT due to rear brake imbalance. I have changed the pads, the calipers are moving free, the discs are only worn about 0.5mm and bled the brakes but it still seems to pull slightly to the left under heavy braking. I am not sure what else could be going on, does anyone have any ideas I could try before I send it back? Cheers, Charlie
SM25T
Tyre pressures ? Some air remaining in one caliper ? Tap it with a hammer while bleeding to encourage air bubbles to move.
7 wonders of the world
Have you located the pip on the inner pad correctly into the slot in the piston..?Are both the pistons and caliper slides free in operation, usually noticeable when you remove the old pads as you find one had suffered premature wear in comparison.do you have flexible hoses to the calipers...? if so remove the calipers slip a suitable wedge between the pads and position the bled nipple upper most and rebleed, if you bleed them in the fitted orientation there will be residual air pocket left in the cailper. SM25T
Another thought ... after winding back the piston and fitting new pads ... with slots engaged properly as post above ... you have to press the brake pedal firmly a few times to operate the internal self adjuster before adjusting and using the handbrake. This is important.
7 wonders of the world
Is the MOT tester a candidate for an SV..? if so it will affect the ability for the rears to lock and therefore give imbalanced readings.Try putting a passenger in the car at the time of test to even the load on the rear axle. Nick T
I would also check that neither of the handbrake cables are sticking.
