PeteG
HiHas anyone got an assembly diagram for a S2 rear drum brake. While I`m awaiting suspension components, I took the drums off. One side the handbrake doesn't really work on, the other side binds. At some point its had replacement cylinders and shoes and I`m convinced its reassembled incorrectly or broken, possibly both. Its the self adjusting version. Possibly Triumph Herald based?.Pete
Wrightpayne
What vehicle is the axle from? Heralds had a transverse leaf spring and open / exposed drive shafts rather than an axle in a casing.
OldAndrewE
If I am wrong then I am sure someone will correct me but a 1965 S2 will not have had self adjusting brakes originally. Can you post a photo of the brakes so we can help identify
Jonathan Kay
i have diagrams of S2 (not self-adjusting) and S3/S4 (self-adjusting). Please send me a Private Message with your email address.Jonathan
PeteG
Its not that then, this has coil over springs Cheers Pete
OldAndrewE
I think your S2 would originally have had a Standard rear axle but that would not have had self adjusting brakes. I suspect that something like a Mk 2 Escort axle has been added (I think they have self adjusting brakes). What is the diameter of the brake drum? Also as suggested earlier some photos will help us identify what you have got
PeteG
Heres a few pictures I took, I suspect that the drums have been changed
OldAndrewE
So certainly not Ford, anyone recognise what it is?
Wrightpayne
Doesn't look like Marina as they have a manual adjuster at the top. What PCD are the studs? (Measure Centre to Centre of a diagonal pair).Ian
Wrightpayne
Another thought - google the shoe part numbers to see if you can find what they are fitted to?
Wrightpayne
Also, any markings on the backplate - most manufacturers stamp their logo / part numbers into components?
PeteG
Thanks all, I`ll dig further tomorrow and post what I find. Its becoming a bit of a mystery as to what they originate from. Here's a picture of the axle I took later

PeteG
I'm now wondering Triumph GT6 or possibly Dolomite?
Wrightpayne
I wonder if you need a copy of Tony Weale's book on the Lotus Seven which is definitive on early cars. You should then understand whether its as left the factory or subsequently modified.
Wrightpayne
I think you might be right - quick google of Triumph Dolomite Drum Brakes brings up this image....
OldAndrewE
Certainly not GT6 as they were a similar system to the Herald. Dolomite - no idea!Clean up the diff housing and see if there is a makers mark cast in
OldAndrewE
Ahead of me there Ian, good detective work
PeteG
Before AfterMany thanks all. Its indeed a Dolomite and is almost certainly someones modification.at some point. The problem was the drivers side brake was reassembled incorrectly after the shoes were replaced. Theres a H section metal fitting which should go next to the handbrake/self adjust lever. It was fitted below the lever. On to the next job! Cheers Pete
