david nelson
I currently have a SLR cage, but loss of tow car , and wanting to use seven more, has lead me to think I need to put on a cage that will allow a screen, doors and a 1/2 hood.it looks as if CC sell a track day cage, with double D’s, but it is not clear if this is the same as the old roadsport DD cage. Other options are the diagonal roadsport/academy cage. It looks as if some have a plate that gets drilled into the dash.Any thoughts please on the best way forwardthanks David
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted September 5, 2021 Leadership Team Share Posted September 5, 2021 All the Roadsport cages fit fine with a screen, but which one you can fit depends upon your car and your intended use.- the trackday cage without the side bars is not certified for competition use.- the cage with the plates for the dash will only fit cars built before around 1996 (I think), sometime in the late '90s the solid end plates on the dash were replaced with a tube, this style of cage will not fit the later cars.- double D and single diagonal cages are fundamentally interchangeable, the only difference being imperial and metric. Metric cages however can often fit an imperial chassis but not always, imperial cages will not fit a metric chassis.- if you compete you might need the single diagonal not the double-D, you'd need to check the specific competition regulations though.- doors fit fine.- you'll need a half hood specific to the cage type you fit.I think that covers it!Stu. Wrightpayne
There was an article in low flying a few years ago covering the various cage types (and bars).I have a tall single diagonal roadsport cage with the dash plates on a '98 dedion chassis.Ian
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted September 5, 2021 Leadership Team Share Posted September 5, 2021 Ian, does your car have the steel webs at the dash ends? My '99 car has only a chassis tube with space behind the carbon dash ends.Stu.

Rob Walker
Hi David, its been a long time since Le Sept.I ran my car with a SLR DD cage and a windscreen. The screen fits within the cage uprights no problem and you can fabricate some brackets to hold the doors onto the front uprights. I am sure that a half hood could be made to suit if the off the peg ones do not fit OXTED will be helpful. There is a small gap between the screen and the uprights if this bothers you some black foam tape could be used to fill the gap. The cage that you have is still the best option.regards Rob
7 wonders of the world
or use half doors from YC plastics permanently fixed onto the cage and get in thro the top of the cage, a BMX stunt peg on the rear cage mount helps
WobblyWeb
SBFS do a half-hood for an SLR cage with windscreen combo - attached to the poppers on the top of the screen.https://www.softbitsshop.co.uk/slr-cage-weather-set-708-p.asp
david nelson
Thanks for the replies. Agree that the SLR cage is the best however what i need is ease of removing screen and then must have doors. The seven is just not getting used, and with the loss of a tow car for a few years it gives me an option to use it more. I think I will be going for a DD roadsport cage, I can always convert back to SLR cage at a later date if needed. A winters project. thanks allDavid
