C7JFM
Has anyone got any pearls of wisdom on this upgrade to the Vx 1600. Is it worth it?
Michael Peterson
Chris: Check back over the topics for the last 90 days. This subject has been touched on. I believe the increase in HP to be about 25. Cheers Michael
Tim Sture
Yes - someone had it done and said it was very worthwhile - made the car very good. I think it results in total 122-125bhp. Perhaps not worthwhile if wanting to do competition, as takes you into the next class up. Might be worth speaking to Classic Carriage as they have been working with Caterham to develop the Supergraduates race cars. This includes a development of the Vx 1600 engine to give around 135bhp, so it's comparable with the Ford crossflow and Rover 1600 supersport (the alternative engine options for Supergrads). Of course this might be more expensive than the Caterham 1800 conversion but the extra power might come in handy.
I.Mupferit
Chris, check the back-issues of Cars & Car Conversions. They carried out just such an upgrade about a year ago, I may even still have the copy. E-mail me a fax no if you have one and I will send a copy if I can find it.
