Molecular--Bob
I am having trouble adjusting my handbrake cable, it's an s3 centre handbrake imperial chassis. Even at max tightness it doesn't hold until 5 clicks. I thought it should be closer to 3? Everything is new except the calipers. Would not winding back the rear calipers cause this? It was rebuilt to rolling chassis as part of an insurance claim, so I don't know if Bookatrack did the wind back or not when they nailed it back together. Is there anything else that I could do to help with this?
Area Representative Geoff Brown Posted July 30, 2021 Area Representative Share Posted July 30, 2021 If the pads are new then the calipers would have been wound back to facilitate fitting them. But it all depends what happened after that......Remove pads, wind calipers back, refit pads. Operate pedal to reseat pads then check handbrake for actuation & adjustment. Wrightpayne
On mine, on one of the times I had the tunnel cover off the cable went down the side of the jockey roller and jammed which would lengthen the inner cable (I think). Also, are you adjusting the two plastic collars above the sierra diff, that thread along the outer cable? Area Representative Paul Richards Posted July 30, 2021 Area Representative Share Posted July 30, 2021 As above. Are you adjusting the two plastic nuts on the outer cable? I'd be surprised if you have run out of outer cable.
7 wonders of the world
Sometimes theres a black plastic sleeve over the spiral steel outer which restricts adjustment as the plastic adjusters screw down the spiral. You can slide this sleeve further down if required.
SM25T
Important that you use the pedal to actuate the self adjuster in rear calipers after winding back pistons before you touch handbrake or handbrake adjusters.
Beagler
Disconnect the handbrake cable at the calipers. Pump the pedal to adjust pads to disc. Measure gap between pads and disc to ensure minimum pad travel then connect and adjust handbrake cable. Needless to say all brake swivel or pivot points need to be free. Molecular--Bob
Will have a look on Saturday and figure out whats going on. I am using the plastic adjusters and I have "run out of Outer".
SM25T
Something very odd. As mentioned above, maybe inner cable has come off the pulleys. Tunnel top off
Molecular--Bob
Will take pictures and await comments. The tunnel top is off and the cover plate has not been fitted yet so access is good
Wrightpayne
Is the cable new? I think its the same as the sierra but shorter.
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted July 30, 2021 Area Representative Share Posted July 30, 2021 Is the cable crossed over after the pulley? It should be.
Molecular--Bob
Hi Paul, that is a possibility, I will check once the rain stops.
Molecular--Bob
Ok< this is where I am at:So the cable is looped, and the adjuster is tight against the end stop on the cable. Can the end-stops be wound down the outer? The pulley looks small for the clevis, is this normal?
