Neil220
I looking to buy a 1.6/1.8 K series engined car, late 90's.I've seen discussion regarding S3 metric and S3 imperial, seems the change was around 2007, so the one I get will be imperial. My question, will the nuts and bolts on the vehicle be imperial also?I'm assuming the K series engine will be metricThanks in advanceHopefully a soon to be Caterham owner! SM25T
Yes. Chassis fasteners will be imperial. K series engine metric. As long as you have both imperial and metric spanners and sockets, you'll be prepared, whatever you find !
aerobod - near CYYC
Even a fully "metric" car has a few imperial fasteners, such as the 6-speed gearbox fill plug (but not the drain plug), seat belt bolts (imperial on all cars) and spherical joints on the Watts linkage and aeroscreen mirrors, amongst those I can remember offhand. Wrightpayne
The change to 'metric' chassis was accompanied with a change in manufacturer and welding type (electric welding)Imperial chassis made by Arch is brazed.
