mandalman
I am about to fit some OMP padding to my roll barI've sprung for the good stuff- OMP FIA padding from Demon Tweeks rather than a bit of foam from B&Q because I figure my bonce is worth it.Seems fairly obvious that I just cable tie it to the bars in the places where my head is likely to make contact but I thought I'd double-check on the Safety Devices website (My roll cage is an older Safety Devices jobby). I was surprised to read that they recommend gluing it in place with Araldite epoxy adhesive before cable tying. Is this recommended? Does anyone else do that or would cable ties be sufficient by themselves?
Support Team andy_harries Posted April 11, 2021 Support Team Share Posted April 11, 2021 On the academy cars I think they are wrapped in place with gaffer tape wound around them as well. That's certainly what I did as cable ties didn't seem to be holding it very securely. I guess the idea behind gluing it is that in an impact a cable tie may not hold it in place enough when impacted and there is a risk of it rotating when struck with your head, limiting its effectiveness. Paul Deslandes
Put some double sided sticky tape, eg carpet tape, along or around the tubes. I won't last forever but is easy to replace and stops the foam sliding around. Gaffer tape is better than cable ties which can hurt your head or helmet but looks a bit unsightly.Paul
Wrightpayne
I'd also consider double sided trim tape - the green backed stuff used for sticking car badges on etc. You only get one go at sticking it in the right place. Lots on ebay.Ian
