Area Representative Paul Richards Posted March 12, 2021 Area Representative Share Posted March 12, 2021 Heads up. From Sunday LIDL have an oil pump in stock. I've used one for the past 5 years or so and it's ideal for emptying Apollo tank without the need to remove that fragile drain plug. Simply drain via top after removing braided hose. Also most useful for draining diffs and gearboxes and only £12.99. Mechanical Moz
How long roughly does it take to empty the sump on an Apollo car Paul? It gives a flow rate of 0.2l/min for engine oil @60degC with a max run time of 30 minutes. Is the actual flow rate much better than that or does it really take 35 minutes to empty 7 litres of warm oil out of the engine?I have a large pneumatic vacuum pump but recently it seems to work about as slowly as above and requires my small compressor to run flat out so I don't like using it. Area Representative Paul Richards Posted March 12, 2021 Author Area Representative Share Posted March 12, 2021 PaulI drain the sump in the normal manner using the sump plug and that gets rid of about 6.5 litres. I just use the electric pump to remove the remains from the bottom of the Apollo. It takes about 5 mins I guess.
