OM,  I  was advised  that the EES3-1A32-12B speedo cannot be calibrated to work with the toothed wheel by Claerbont and that I need the next generation speedo that was fully programmable.

That's my understanding, too.  It's calibrated via dipswitches.

I believe OrangeMax ended up with a programmable MPH speedo with silver dial, EES3-1B32-06B, CC p/n 71255SMC (which, as it happens, is what I have in my R400D).

Thanks John,  Yes the EES3-1A32-12B only has 4 dip switches and as such is not fully programmable, the later gen have 10 Dip switches I understand?

Yes, they do, but I don't know which particular models have the 10 dipswitches.  Certainly these are much more programmable than the 4-dipswitch models.

Caerbont provide two sets of calibration info:

(a) pre-2004 with dipswitch settings (10 dipswitches)
(b) 2004-on fully programmable stepper-motor jobbies with a 6-digit pulse code entered via the odometer

The pre-2004 models have a pulse/mile resolution of between 0.36% (9 in 2500) and 0.48% (649 in 135076).  That's sufficient to achieve very good accuracy.  Because the pulse/mile resolution of the 2004-on models is 1, it's possible to achieve even higher accuracy -- if you should want to!

My speedo is a 2004-on model.  I try to get the odometer as accurate as possible as, range-wise, I drive on the trip reading rather than the fuel gauge. I'm happy to accept that the speedo then over-reads by 3 to 4mph.
