Tazio Posted December 31, 2020 Share Posted December 31, 2020 Sorry for more queries re my little project. As part of the recommissioning of the car i will most probably have the engine out. Looking at it in situ, it's very tight at the front with the bottom pulley close up to a chassis rail. The question is , what is the best way to remove the engine, on it's own?, if so can you really split the engine and box with the front pulley so close to the chassis tube that runs across the front of the engine?, or is it engine and box out together?Appreciate your thoughts.Alan Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

OldAndrewE Posted December 31, 2020 Share Posted December 31, 2020 Alan, I presume it is a Xflow engine. If it is a 2000E gearbox then certainly the box and engine need to come out together. Wrightpayne Posted December 31, 2020 Share Posted December 31, 2020 Neil,The water pump and crank pulley's extend beyond the upper transverse chassis tube, which is 1 inch diameter, and seems further back in the chassis. If you look from above the pulleys are forward of the tube. I think removing the bolts from the water pump pulley and removing it will gain a bit but not convinced it will pass. Or even unbolting the pump. There is no engine bay diagonal on the passenger side and no cruciform like the later chassis's.Tazio and I have done many (different) engine removals and refits in sevens but this has us stumped!Ian Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Olgawld Posted December 31, 2020 Share Posted December 31, 2020 I recently took my xflow out my live axle 7. It is tight but comes out fairly easy, without gearbox. Sooty Posted January 1, 2021 Share Posted January 1, 2021 Alan, its tight, especially if youve got electrics/ relays fixed to the nearest chassis rails. Mine came out, separated from the gearbox which needs supporting, easily with the alternator and water pump removed. When reinstalling I fitted a slightly smaller billett crank pulley which created a bit more room without adversely impacting on alternator output even with slower revs Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
