Peter R Shaw
I have a 1993 1700 xflo...its been running fine since I bought it last summer( road use only) and whilst out yesterday it developed a rattle from the exhaust ...I thought it was the bolts had maybe come loose but on tightening them the rattle remains! It has a stainless silencer ....probably standard caterham...it seems to only rattle at certain revs ....any ideas on what it is and what I can do to fix it ?? Mark Durrant
Peter Sounds like a baffle has come loose inside the silencer. Unforunately, unless you have a repackable silencer you only have two choices, live with the rattle or replace it ❗ Mark D Su77on Se7ens
Tonycaterham
Hi, My exhaust has 'rattled' on two occasions for different reasons, one was the perforated protector was rattling against the silencer and on the second occasion the down pipes were vibrating against each other a low revs. Tony
Peter R Shaw
no protector on mine ......but a bit suspicious about the bit that makes it go 4 into 1 .... Road7runner S7S.1.7 X flo
k.russell
Peter, I have replaced my standard caterham JPE silencer with a larger repackable silencer, I fabricated this myself, and cut open the JPE system to use the perforated central pipe, found this to be broken completely in two, I presume the continual expansion & contraction of this pipe was the cause, it being fixed (welded) at both ends doesnt let it expand. could this be the noise you have, also my 4-1 is held with springs, which can rattle.
