Jeff210R
I recently changed from a 140 Roadsport to a 210 with stage 1 upgrade but no RBTBs. It goes like the proverbial compared with my RS but sounds very tame. Short of drilling holes in the can does anyone have any suggestions?Jeff
timb2117
I'm just building up my own exhaust (by necessity not choice) obtained a 200 cell catalyst online (instead of the 400 fitted by most manufacturers) but also not the 100 pure race one - and was told by the muffler builder (i'm not that good!) it would double the noise. He then put together the muffler advising it would sound deeper - still a work in progress but could give you specs in a week if it works.Just bear in mind with cat fiddling that last thing you want to do is stuff up the post cat sensor. Also whilst not a huge fan of some legislation you will want to pass decibel checks at track and not get rid of all back pressure. Finally what airbox have you got? Maybe switch to a foam pod type which will increase induction roar....
aerobod - near CYYC
With an uncatted R400D (allowed on Caterhams in Canada due to registration class) and intake plenum, the standard Caterham factory fit exhaust is too noisy to pass noise regulations at some events I attend these days, normally 92.9dB limit at 15m. I assuming the catted exhaust must provide much better sound attenuation.
Mrp
Roller Barrels and a de-cat pipe and you might get flames as well as noise, I think there is another thread on this on here.Mrp
DougBaker
Be happy that you will be able to drive at Donington and other circuits with strict noise limits and that your hearing will still work when you are older

Area Representative Piers300 Posted December 9, 2020 Area Representative Share Posted December 9, 2020 Over time, the exhaust will get noisier as the infill material gets hammered by the gases. Be patient and it will get noisier. However, if your tracking it, having a quite silencer is beneficial.
timb2117
Hi Jeff, not saying its a work of art but good Dad and son project cost about 250 pounds for custom made 6' silencer fancy band clamps and 200 cell cat, sounds awesome on my 1800K, just got to figure out a carbon fibre heatshield now....:)
