anthony1956
I am wondering about what air filter arrangement and what it looks like. I'd really like to reproduce the classic double K&N arrangement, but no info about whether that can be made to work.Failing that is it Pipercross or ITG air filter and is it possible it as as simple as a deeper (higher) version of the standard Caterham part?I would prefer to avoid having to engage in drilling etc.Come to think of it is there a standard R400 air filter to fit on the existing base plate?and in parts we have this: https://caterhamparts.co.uk/other/814-air-filter-rover-throttle-bodies.html?search_query=R400+air&results=153 Anthony

7 wonders of the world
might be worth speaking to Bruce, in relation to hole sizes across the models
John Vine
Is this to fit your R500K, Anthony, or some other car?JV
anthony1956
Yes R500 KIt's the air filter I am trying to identify: and obtain a view / pic. I gather all dimensions are the same, following a chat with Arch.
anthony1956
@7 wonders... yes did that first; sorry didn't see your apt idea until this sec
John Vine
Have you've studied this info on the Pipercross PX600 series?I used the C603D on my 1.8K SS-R (which AFAIK has the same RBs as your R500).JV
7 wonders of the world
I thought all K engines all ran with Pipercross half sausage filters which were screen printed with R500, AFAIK the ITG box filter was fitted to the VX engines...The sausages can be made to fit a teardrop bonnet opening very neatly depending on what intake lengths you end up needing or choosing. anthony1956
Yes here is my original one: sadly ruined internally by age and replaced with one from CC that no longer says R500. My trumpets are as original. I'd like a half sausage that fits nicely in to the R400 cut out bonnet I have ordered from Bruce. How or from who I achieve that is the underlying question. 7 wonders of the world
I would try Pipercross direct as Im guessing they did the screen printing for CC..... so they might be able to help or supply a plain one and you could get a stencil made and spray your own, checking what paint wont affect the foam, Pipercross may share what they use with you. murph7355
When you say "classic double K&N arrangement", do you mean something like this. These are Jenvey TBs with a Pipercross sock filter per pair (no backplate on the TBs/trumpets). They fit under a bonnet without a cutout. This on a 200bhp K-series. Not sure how well they'd work out of the box on an R500 without mapping work.
anthony1956
Hi, plan is to have cutout to get fresh air. It seems the standard half sausage will also fit as standard from some few non ideal pics I have seen.Yes this would be mapped. The K&N idea is purely for looks and may not be practical in the first Instance due to it being project creep. anthony1956
NOT a k engine but other examples are similar, the bonnet rests on the air filter rather than thd filter sticking through. So same filter whether cutout of not.
Andy Doughty
It's a Duratec but it is possible to get a tight fit around an IGT who will supply without any logo.Excuse the white exhaust I was stuck and had to go to B and Q!
