malcolml
Would one of you gents be able to tell me how the small panel in front of the gear stick that holds the start button on the swoopy dash is held in place please. There are no screws that i can see. Thank you. Malcolm.
Leadership Team Shortshift Posted September 7, 2020 Leadership Team Share Posted September 7, 2020 As far as I know or recall, that small panel is not easily removed - I think it is either riveted or brazed to the swoopy dash tubular frame from underneath.Happy to be corrected if wrong, but from memory that's what I concluded when I was trying to access that area. It's a bit of a nightmare down there; access to the starter button wiring (eg: if you wanted to remove or replace the starter button) is all but impossible. What are you trying to do?James
malcolml
Thank you for your reply James. I was going to replace the starter button with a different one but from your reply looks like i may have to stick with the one i have got. Thanks again for reply, Malcolm
Leadership Team Shortshift Posted September 7, 2020 Leadership Team Share Posted September 7, 2020 I though that might be your plan! You may be lucky (or more lucky than me). If you unscrew the black collar around the starter button and then lift the switch out of the panel, you might have enough free length of wiring harness to allow you to undo the two connectors and replace the switch. On my car, there just isn't enough free length of wire available to do that. Alternative access routes appear to be impractical unless you are desperate - either from underneath (propshaft largely in the way) or peel back the tunnel/console carpet, drill-out the rivets holding the tunnel side panel in place and access it that way. You'd want to be dead keen to go through with any of that, though...James
