K Series De-cat Performance

Hi,

How much is performance improved by fitting a de-cat exhaust to a 1.6 K series.  Currently running 633 cams with plastic plenum and standard manifold.

Increase probably too small to measure. What you may notice is the noise & change in nature of how the engine goes about its business. And the possible increase in fuel consumption.

Thanks Geoff, when you talk about a change in the nature of the engine is this a positive change or does it lead to mapping issues etc?

No issues just changes the feel of the engine, induction & exhaust noise. You may notice a change to response in throttle input. Obviously the engine is not working against the back pressure of the cat so in theory better exhaust flow, different gas temp for the lambda to analyse which could lead to a change in fuel consumption.

I am basing this on my experience of de catting a R400D. Except you may not get the large blue flames from the exhaust at night!

I seem to remember Caterham quoting 138bhp for the original 1.6SS then downgrading it to 133bhp when the catalyst was fitted.
