Chris300
Hi All,Is there a guide with most common torque settings? The build manual has some, but doesn't seem comprehensive. There is a guide "Bolt list" where the description says torque settings, but nope. The job at hand is Duratec alternator brackets to block and alternator to brackets? Help on this at least would be appreciated :)Thanks, Chris

John Vine
I don't know of a guide more comprehensive than the Assembly Guide. However, I have a copy of the Cosworth CSR260 Build Manual (which may or may not apply!), which gives:Upper bracket: M10 x 40 - 40Nm Lower bracket: M8 x 50 - 20Nm:Hope that helps.JV
DJ.
Sorry I don't own a duratec engined Seven do can't help with those figures, but I have bought a Haynes manual for the Ford my Sigma engine came from and that has a lot of useful information for not much outlay. Wrightpayne
The Caterham assembly guide will only cover bits you actually need to assemble as part of the build.I have a haynes manual for a Rover 420 and Ford Sierra which cover everything else for me. Area Representative Geoff Brown Posted August 10, 2020 Area Representative Share Posted August 10, 2020 Not a lot of room in the bay to wield a torque wrench - after my engine fit I just used good judgement with hand tools. Or as is known in engineering 'tighten till it shears then back half a turn'.
Chris300
Hi All thanks for the responses. John - will look at the CSR260 build manual in the future, thats more detail than the 2014 general manual i have. Geoff - absolutely, it wasn't an easy job and used a push-bike torque wrench which helped for the 20Nm bits. The build manual instructs to take off the starter and alternator when fitting engine, so would have thought they would give you the settings to refit :)Haynes is probably a good shout as well if stuck in the future
John Vine
The build manual instructs to take off the starter and alternator when fitting engine, so would have thought they would give you the settings to refit :)Agreed, although it does include a table of general torque figures:Unfortunately, when I built my S3 in 2008, I didn't spot the instruction to remove the alt. I'd almost got the engine in when I discovered the problem:But the starter was ok left in situ.JV
Chris300
Ouch, yes can see the need to remove it :)
Area Representative Geoff Brown Posted August 11, 2020 Area Representative Share Posted August 11, 2020 I removed the alternator but not the starter during my build. The starter was sufficiently low profile not to cause a problem.
