TomB
What’s the thread on the reverse of the rear anti roll bar ball socket things? I need to buy some half nut nylocs to help with clearance to the tyres. The car is a mid 1990s imperial chassis. Thanks
Englishmaninwales
TomThe overslung rear ARBs fitted to cars in the 1990s can foul the wheel, inner wheel arch aluminium skin and when they break, they can puncture the fuel tank. I've had all those, luckily the tank was dented and not punctured.I removed mine and the bonus was the car handles better.Malcolm
TomB
HI Malcolm,Ive turned my droplinks to the inside of the bar to help with clearance on the wider SLR wheels. As such, I have the thread and nut of the ball facing the tyre. I've got witness marks on the tyres and a little scraping of rubber on the end of the threaded section. So I've trimmed a couple of mm off the thread and want to fit a half height nyloc. I don't need much additional clearance, so I hope this will give enough. What worries me is what happens when I end up fitting 215 section ZZS to replace my 205 CR500, I might need a wheel spacer. with longer wheel studs. I don't want to remove it as its been recommended I keep it with the upgraded dampers with less stiction than the standard Bilsteins, Hope you're well, Cheers Tom

TomB
To add, its blue insert on the nyloc, which think means its metric. So probably M5 or M6 by eye.
John Vine
Well, a blue nyloc insert indicates metric. Perhaps a previous owner substituted metric links for imperial? If it is metric, my guess would be M8 x 1.25. Do you have a thread gauge?JV
TomB
Its M8 I think, problem is I've not lost the bloody ball in the garage! I turned my back to look at some half nuts on eBay on my phone and teh garage borrower has snaffled the bloody thing!
John Vine
These McGill ball joints are what I use.Alternatively, P/N 72118 from CC (shown as OOS at the mo).JV
7 wonders of the world
Tom,I would try the car without the RARB, unless your racing and are searching for the last tenth of a second.....
TomB
I might have to unless I can find the bloody ball!
mossy7
Forgive the lack of knowledge and slight thread hi-jack but what exactly would the difference on the road be if I removed the rear arb from my 360R?
