Nickhughes
I have received new shocks and springs from Redline. Managed to fit rear springs onto shocks with motorcycle spring compressor but this will not work on the fronts. Have taken to my friendly garage and motorcycle repair man and neither has tools to fit. Does anybody know if there is anywhere local to Blandford, Dorset who can fit these? Mark w
How are you trying to fit them ?
Nickhughes
just compress the spring but the springs are wound quite tight and the motorcycle one can only compress about six inches of the coil which makes them near enough coil bound and is not compressed enough to get the collar on The garage ones are too big for the coils. ( this is on a 1988 car original type shock and spring ).
Mark w
Sounds like you need a longer spring compresser .Have you considered using the spring compresser alongside a ratchet strap to reduce the remainder ? Please be careful , a released spring takes no prisoners .
elie boone
I have made a spring compressor from a car jack, no hassle anymore.
DJ.
I recently changed my standard front springs with Sealey motorbike compressors and I found them easier than the rears as there was no circlip to struggle with.
SM25T
With adjustable height platforms all the way down, I can get mine on and off ok just with hand pressure (plus my weight !). Fronts are 300lb too.
