Stewart Collier
I was doing a check of my lights and found all working, except offside cycle wing repeater. The bulb OK.When I try to press the hazard light switch the lights don't work and the relay buzzes. Any ideas, is it just the relay is knackered?TIA Stewart
Wrightpayne
TADTS (at some point)Just cycle the hazard switch on and off a few times usually does the trick!
Stewart Collier
I have tried that in the past on a different 7 and it sorted the hazards and indicators not working. This seems different as the indicators are working, but not the hazards. S
John Vine
Have you seen this ancient post? It may give you some clues.JV
Stewart Collier
Thanks John, that will take some digesting. S
Wrightpayne
The only fault I've had is the earth cable detaching from the ring terminal inside the headlamp bowl.
Stewart Collier
Thanks, I'll try a new flasher relay for starters. S
Stewart Collier
Removed the relay and hazard switch and cleaned all the contacts. Hey presto, nearside hazards work, not offside. Repeated the process. Offside now work, but not nearside. Bloody electrics.....
Wrightpayne
Check one of the connectors isnt pushing out the back of the relay holder. You're getting warm ;-)
Stewart Collier
Thanks, I'll just keep plugging away. Stewart
AnkerB-S
Also, check the three connectors on the alternator. On mine, two of the three were loose. Low voltage as a result of a loose connection can cause all kinds of problems.
Stewart Collier
Further to my post #8 I've took photos of the components. Could anyone view them and give me their opinion. These above are the switch with 4 pins and 2 spadesThis is the connector block with two spades and 2 of the 5 connectors having inserts. This is the rear of the connector block. One green and purple into one connector and 3 black into the other. Is that right?BTW The hazard relay has only 3 pins. Caterham website have it with 3 or 5 and Redline only have a 5 pin hazard relayTIA Stewart
bjw
Caterham list two types of hazard rocker switch - the very common 6 terminal one ("1981 onwards") and a 4 terminal one ("2010 onwards") like yours.I've never seen a wiring diagram that shows the latter. I have some assembly guides from much later than 2010, all of which still show the original 6 terminal one, so it isn't clear how common it is. (Has JK sent you an appropriate wiring diagram ?)Be aware that much of the advice you find on the forum will be relevant only to systems using the 6 terminal switch.Cheers
Stewart Collier
Now sorted, not by me I must add. One of the earths had failed within the insulation under a tie wrap. Discovered with a heat sensing camera. Repaired and now working. Thanks for the comments. Stewart
bjw
Good to hear it's fixed, but for future reference it would be nice to understand how the circuit is arranged and what that earth wire was doing...Has nobody seen a wiring diagram showing this alternative hazard system ? Is it very rare ?Cheers
