Martin7H
HiI am looking for the part numbers / reference numbers for the original dampers (bilstein) and springs; also the spring ratings. Also what are the alternatives that some may have been fitted as an upgrade.I understand this is targeting a minority of members, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Simon.Rogers
I have supplied a number of 21's.Largely its been Nitron's with bespoke valving and spring rates.

jackb_ms
Hello AllI have also been thinking of upgrading my suspension.Simon which system would you recomend?Jack
Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted March 26, 2020 Area Representative Share Posted March 26, 2020 I decided I had run out of budget with my rebuild, so I have kept the set-up Rob Morley has done on the 21 before. It doesn't cope with the current state of the roads as well as I would like. Rob's view is that it is Nitron or don't bother. The additional £1,000+ isn't justified considering how I think I will be using the car in the future (classic car shows and occasional outings in brilliant weather).I changed from the progressive rear springs because I think the lower end rate is too soft for the additional weight of the rear on a 21, so there was a tendency to wallow; IMO only of course. Progressives per se make sense but I would specify a taughter starting point.
7 wonders of the world
ISTR the progressives from the SV are of a higher rate than normal S3 which I'm guessing the 21 uses...?Pretty sure somewhere I have the rates for both...... just need to remember where.. Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted March 26, 2020 Area Representative Share Posted March 26, 2020 Neil, you may be right about the rates but remember the 21 preceded the SV (you know this, of course).
7 wonders of the world
sorry what was the question again......
Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted March 27, 2020 Area Representative Share Posted March 27, 2020 Yes. The original specification rear springs on a 21 were the same as on the S3.
nickh7
Simon sorted me a set of Nitron NTR1 with his valving. Not had much use yet but so far the feeling is way ahead of the street Series they replaced and that's on West Yorkshire ploughed roads.
