p.mole1
Can anyone recommend any? I was with Start and they recovered me from Anglesey when I put a rod through the sump!. They don't cover cars that are used on track days so it must have been the good will of the operator.
Jonathan Kay
Vast amounts in the archives but scattered across multiple threads.Strong support for ADAC, but I can't remember if they're accepting new applications from the UK nor how to contact them. Look out for Stridey's recent posts in that lot.Any preference for combining it with insurance or not?Do you have access to Which??JonathanPS:They don't cover cars that are used on track days...Apparently some cars have been pushed onto public roads or towed a few miles away before making contact... SM25T
Just renewed our ADAC cover. They don't accept new customers without a German address.
Scotland North AR
I've had to use the breakdown cover which comes "free" with my Nationwide current account. Very efficient they were...whoever it is that provides the service on their behalf.
Jonathan Kay
Nationwide... whoever it is that provides the service on their behalf. "Liverpool Victoria Insurance Company Limited trading as Britannia Rescue."Jonathan
Scotland North AR
Ah ok, thanks. Highly recommended. We've been insured with LV on the tin tops for years and always good service on that side too. They won't touch the rollerskate though.
Jonathan Kay
They won't touch the rollerskate though. For insurance? They'd recover the Seven if needed?Jonathan
Scotland North AR
Yes, maybe should have clarified that, they won't insure the 7 but have recovered it a couple of times using the breakdown number provided by Nationwide.

p.mole1
Thanks, I'll see if I can get it with my insurance, it's due in 5 days £300 with track day cover for six events.Does that sound expensive? I'm not sure how confident I would be relying on an insurer to pay out on one of these policies, it might not be worth the paper it's written on? Jonathan Kay
That sounds OK for a single trackday driver, and great for anything more. Who is it with?Jonathan
ChrisC
From The AA Terms and Conditions. (Sept 2019) Participation in sporting events, that is assistance for vehicles broken down as a result of taking part in any “Motor Sport Event”, including but not limited to racing, rallying, trials or time-trials or auto test. However, for the avoidance of doubt, the AA does not consider “Concours d’elegance” events, track test days for road-legal vehicles or rallies held exclusively on open public highways where participants are required to comply with the normal rules of the road, to be Motor Sports Events. So that's track test days for road-legal vehicles covered. Ironically my biggest (to date) Caterham failures have not been track related.
Frogman
I wonder what their classification is for the Dunsfold handling day.
p.mole1
My insurance is with Reis. I was unlucky with my engine failure, but now I'm paranoid about another blow up. I have the feeling I could be driving another K series grenade! Hopefully steel rods and forged pistons should help.Does the AA cover older vehicles, my Caterham is now 25 years old. The other option is a trailer?
ChrisC
Dunsford handling day is a track testing day for road legal vehicles.I just googled max car age, 10 years apparently, they will cover 25 year old cars if you get personal cover not car cover. Mechanical Moz
From the LV/Britannia Rescue t&c list of exclusions:9. Breakdown and recovery assistance for vehicles involved in sporting events including racing, pacemaking, speed testing, rallies, trials and all other track based activities or practising for any such events, and those involved in leisure off road events.Through Nationwide I've used the service several times without problem but this will push me to look elsewhere and ditch the Flex Plus account now. ChrisC
There was one breakdown company that advertised "No matter where, No matter what", and when push came to shove, it did matter where and it did matter what, as I found out to my cost.Always read the small print with breakdown cover, and make sure it covers what you want. John Vine
I use the Footman James RAC Breakdown cover, one of their tailored policy additions, as an add-on to my "kit car" policy. They offer five options:Roadside & Recovery: RAC will fix your vehicle at the roadside wherever possible, as long as you're over ¼ mile away from home or where the vehicle is normally kept. If the vehicle can't be repaired at the roadside then your cover includes recovery of your vehicle and up to 8 passengers to the nearest garage, or destination of your choice, anywhere in the UK.Roadside, Recovery & Onward Travel: Same features as Roadside and Recovery, plus the RAC will provide a courtesy car, hotel accommodation or alternative transport for you and up to 8 passengers.Roadside, Recovery, Onward Travel & At Home: Same features as Roadside, Recovery & Onward Travel, plus the RAC will attend if your car breakdowns at home, or within ¼ mile of your house.Roadside, Recovery, Onward Travel & European: Same features as Roadside, Recovery & Onward Travel, plus the RAC will provide cover for breakdowns in 48 European countries and their offshore islands in continental Europe.Roadside, Recovery, Onward Travel, At Home & European: Same features as Roadside, Recovery, Onward Travel & European, plus the RAC will attend if your vehicle breaks down at home, or within ¼ mile of your house.I use #4. Mind you, I've never had to claim, so I can't vouch for how they operate when needed!JV

Very efficient they were...whoever it is that provides the service on their behalf.I have the same and have yet to use them - so that's reassuring news!As an off-topic aside, have you used the Travel Insurance? Scotland North AR
Hi, no I haven't used the travel insurance fortunately. Due to certain medical conditions ( one being a Notherner) we have to get travel insurance via AllClear. Probably another long thread required on travel insurance and who does or doesn't cover what.
