TomB
Morning, I think I need to dive under the dashboard to investigate the ignition barrel and starter button wiring as the engine isn't cranking when it should. I recall the cabling going into the barrel is pretty tight and fairly close to the vertical scuttle panel. I intend replacing the starer button wiring with suitably rated thinwall which might help with space, but it the black plastic cover that the wiring passes through needed? I imagine it helps prevent hotwiring theft, not sure whether this is ever an issue with a 7 though!Cheers Tom
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted February 4, 2020 Leadership Team Share Posted February 4, 2020 Tom, neither of the two Caterhams that I've owned have had a cover over the rear of the ignition switch.Stu.
StevehS3
The original barrel has the black plastic cover, so cars without the red button will still have it fitted. When the red button wiring is installed the black cover has to be removed/cut off so will not be present thereafter.
TomB
Thanks that useful. Steve, when I fitted mine originally I managed to squeeze it all back into the black cover, but its a tight fit and I suspect it could be a source of unreliability with connections being too squashed or pulling others loose. Ill pull it all off and reconnect as per the diagrams on the tech guides for the starter button.
Clive H
I used self amalgamating tape to cover the exposed terminals. Works well and can be cut off if necessary

nickh7
Same here , I used to switch off the engine with my left knee on a regular basis so it had to go.
