French Noise Test

Just failed the French noise test (what a surprise!) The driver of a Chevvy Corvette who was waiting to do the same test reckons that wire wool shoved up the exhaust is a temporary solution. I didn`t hang around long enough to see if his car passed, but if the wire wool trick lasts just long enough to get through the test it would be worth a try. Anyone tried it?

Roger.

Hi Roger

Sorry to hear of your noise problem, look forward to "hearing" if the Brillo System works.

Best wishes to you and Sandy, are you likely to be making any whistle stop visits to Plymouth in the near future?

Trust you are enjoying life at Maison des Bois. And you are keeping busy

Hi Roger,

Is this noise test part of the French 'MoT' only or should british 7ers who drive over for a holiday be worried? If so I think a lot of the Le Septers and Le Mansers may have an issue....

Hi Phil,

There is no problem for visiting cars. The test is a requirement not for the Controle Technique, (the french M.O.T) but for unknown cars (i.e.Caterham!) which are being registered in France. The whole performance of re-registration is fraught with difficulty as each department seems to have different requirements so what works in one area doesn`t necessarily work in another.

It`s just one of the penalties we have to pay for the privelege of driving on mostly deserted roads with very few speed cameras!

Regards,

Roger.

Hi Richard.

I'm not a french registration specialist, but I know where you can find one or two:

On the french Caterham Yahoo! mailing list (some members are also Blatchat members - as me).

Some of them have registered RHD cars bought in England. One member -can't remember his name - has a good source for that type of information.

One important question is: Has your car's type been "officially" imported in France?

If the answer is "yes", bingo!

If it's "no", it will be more difficult, but maybe not impossible.

To know it: Emmanuel Joucla's site, go to "Informations" then to "Homologuées en France".

Then subscribe to the mailing list and ask your question (I suppose you can speak french *confused*).

If you think I can help you, send me mail.

Thanks for the info, I will look later. My car is not approved by Caterham or imported into France yet. Think Caterham will eventually go this way though. Intend to go for private import once the car is 6+ months old.

Thanks again

A few years ago at Le Mans I ended up chatting to a French guy who had an S4 on British plates. Turns out he had a deal going with a British guy who ran a DS in the UK on French plates for added authenticity- they simply used each others addresses for the paperwork. Not strictly in the spirit of things but you may get away with it....
