Downlands
HiI'm looking to freshen up the interior and exterior of my car and one thing I want to do is touchup the black rivets.Does anyone have any suggestions on a durable paint?ThanksTim
Jonathan Kay
I'd use Hammerite Black, not sure if Smooth or Glossy would be better.Jonathan
elie boone
Alcohol marker works just fine
ChrisC
I use POR15 chassis top coat, I spay a little into a cup cake liner and touch up from that.
Tony P
I'd try Elie's suggestion first (for example, Staedtler Lumocolour 'permanent' - though it won't be truly permanent, but quick, easy and cheap). If you don't like that, and you're having to buy paint just for this job, why not look at Humbrol? In Acrylic or Enamel, satin finish, either are only a couple of quid for a little tin. elie boone
Nothing is permanent if you live in beer country no1 then everything is alcohol related.

Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted January 22, 2020 Leadership Team Share Posted January 22, 2020 For what it's worth, having tried a few of the mentioned methods ..... Indelible marker pens are easy but tend to be a very dark purple rather than a true black; Hammerite on a small brush is durable but not the easiest to apply because it dries too quickly and gets stringy; Halford's type touch-up pens work well but are either too gloss or too matt; The most successful has been a little acid etch primer sprayed into a spray can lid and applied with a small brush, followed by the same with satin black. The etch primer bonds to the rivet heads better and the satin black is easier to apply onto the primer than onto bare ally. But then again it's a lot of work, just drive it!Stu.
