Petethediesel
A couple of months ago I purchased a pair of LED H4 headlight bulbs from Dave Gemzoe Motorsport of Wakefield. I rarely drive at night in the 7, but was very uncomfortable with the standard H4 set up on my 2018 360. The £800/1000 full LED upgrade seemed daft for my limited use so trying Gemzoes bulbs was a £40 bet worth trying. Iv'e done several hours night driving in the last fortnight and am mighty please with these bulbs. Significantly brighetr and with an effective dip cut off. Before anyone asks, no I won't provide the make and part number. Dave G did the research/testing, so it would be churlish to mention these. If you want better lighting at a reasobale cost, well worth consideration.
CtrMint
Pete,Such an upgrade would be handy on mine, you probably know how dark Manx's roads can be. Do you know if they are E marked etc. My recent post about JAL rear LED units raised similar questions.thanks
Wrightpayne
Most cars with OEM LEDs have auto levelling - not sure if this is a legal requirement?
Petethediesel
I can appreciate a legislated need for auto levelling, given the strength of these these lights. Simply, I don't know either, but do check them on pre marked points on the gargae door regularly. They were checked for alignment by Oakmere in December and found OK. Petethediesel
The box shows E4. So I think the answer is, possibly.
Jonathan Kay
Pete: Have you got a photo showing the comparative beam intensity and pattern, please?Thanks....Most cars with OEM LEDs have auto levelling - not sure if this is a legal requirement?I don't think so: the current guidance....Happy New YearJonathan
Petethediesel
Jonathan, No I don't have a photo but will put a standard bulb back in, over the weekend, to photograph the difference/pattern against a plain wall. Interesting legislation link. It only refers to HID not LED. Pete
Jonathan Kay
That would be very kind, especially as it involves reworking. Any chance of some shots down the lane as well as up against the wall?Interesting legislation link. It only refers to HID not LED. That's how I read it.Jonathan
Petethediesel
I will convert one side back to original and take photos of that side, before and after. One set from inside the car and another from the front, down the road. The dip shots will be on the wall as that will best demonstrate the cut off. nickh7
I've got these , yes they are e-marked and as said Dave did all the leg work on these. My MOT station said that the light pattern was very good and unlike other LEDs passed easily. I cant post pictures off my phone but have photos of them. TomB
Nick, would Dave’s bulbs have any problem fitting in a 5 3/4in headlamp shell, what with the protruding bit at the back?
nickh7
Hi Tom , don't know about that as I am still on the big things
Petethediesel
Hello Tom, My headlights are 5 3/4" and yes they do fit. Just need to be tidy with the wiring to keep it clear.
Petethediesel
Photos taken today. I decided to be lazy and did not swap an LED for a standard bulb as photos of this have now been contributed. The first two are dip and full beam at near distance in daylight with the camera set to tin top driver/mirror height. I think this illustrates the effective dip quite well. These two are dip then main from inside the garage against the door from short distance. Shows the degree of dip judged by the door panel line. These two are from the car at night main/dip pointing down the road. The road is not flat but the difference is clear. More distance main/dip.I trust this gives sufficient information for judgment. Certainly I'm satisfied with them and there is the added bonus that the bulbs are 25 watts each, so a healthy reduction on standard. Circa 4 Amps on full beam! Sounds good to me. Jonathan Kay
ThanksCirca 4 Amps on full beam! What were the previous lamps... ? I'll then turn that into engine power unleashed... :-)Jonathan
Petethediesel
Yes a massive performance lift but just don't switch your indicators on or it's lost! Originals were about 50 watts if I recall. So circa half. If you want the original pics I can send them by email? They were fairly high definition on an SLR so probably not uploaded to blatchat at that size.
grumpy the 7th
Purly guessing that the original bulbs would have been 55Wdip & 60Wmain each so that would be 10Amps total - SO 6Amps saved. eddited to say --- should trype faster
Jonathan Kay
Edited. If you want the original pics I can send them by email? Thanks for the offer but rays ipsa loquitur.Jonathan
Petethediesel
Ahh, sadly its Watts not Amps, so just 50 Watts gained. Suspect that if we had 1.4 KW going through the headlight wires we would not need bulbs at all!

Petethediesel
Tried to delete mine in empathy but nothing happened. I do have a cartoon in my head of 7's roaring through the night, with wiring looms illuminating the night sky though.
