Carrotland AR
There seems to be a problem whereby I can't add a comment to an existing thread.I'm logged in but when I go to last post on any thread, I don't get the editor screen. At the same time the logged in flag at the top RHS of the screen prompts me to log in despite already showing on other screens as me being logged in.Additionally, the counter doesn't seem to be updating. E.G. a post will show 4 updates but when I go into the post I can only see two. This happens when logged in as myself, Steve Wright, or as Carrotland AR.ThanksSteve W, Norfolk AR
Tony Whitley
I'm not aware of anyone else having this problem. What platform (PC / tablet / phone), OS and browser are you using?
Area Representative Steve Wright Posted December 10, 2019 Area Representative Share Posted December 10, 2019 Hi TonyI'm using Macbook running OS 10.13.6 and Safari 13.0.3I seem to be able to update my own post (this one) but not one that others have posted.Steve

Member Jonathan Kay Posted December 10, 2019 Member Share Posted December 10, 2019 Can you try the same account on a different machine?I'd also consider logging out and in again (you've probably done that) and deleting the relevant browser caches.Jonathan (Safari 12.0.3 on macOS 10.14.3)
Carrotland AR
An update: It only happens on Chitchat, all the other forums (fora?) are ok.Have logged in and out a number of times and swapped member/AR login roles - No change.I have also killed Safari and restarted it - No change. Will now try rebooting the machine. TTFN.Steve
Area Representative Steve Wright Posted December 10, 2019 Area Representative Share Posted December 10, 2019 Now back as me following a machine reboot. No change, can't get editor on any Chitchat post but can on any other forum.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted December 10, 2019 Member Share Posted December 10, 2019 "... and deleting the relevant browser caches."That should probably be:"and deleting the relevant browser caches and cookies."Let us know if you need any help on how to do that.Jonathan
Area Representative Steve Wright Posted December 10, 2019 Area Representative Share Posted December 10, 2019 Tried the iPhone, all ok so it's looking like a problem on my machine."and deleting the relevant browser caches and cookies."No idea how to go about that, will do a bit of Googling. Member Jonathan Kay Posted December 10, 2019 Member Share Posted December 10, 2019 Apple Support page. But you could try File... New Private Window first. I'm not an expert on that but I think it might then ignore previous stuff while you're in that window. Anyone?Have you got another account on the same Mac? (BTW I put a vanilla Admin account on all of the Macs that I support, saves a lot of time with problems like this.)Jonathan
Area Representative Steve Wright Posted December 10, 2019 Area Representative Share Posted December 10, 2019 Tried File>New Window - No joy. It did something, in that all posts were flagged as new. However, there was still no edit window at the end of any Chitchat post. However! I Did: Safari> Preferences> Manage Website data> Select Lotus7 club> Delete allThis has cleared the condition.Useful, but frightening how many website are in the list. Wonder what would happen if I removed them all............
Member Jonathan Kay Posted December 10, 2019 Member Share Posted December 10, 2019 Well done.... but frightening how many website are in the list. Wonder what would happen if I removed them all............Some people do every so often, some don't... you won't do any great harm doing it through that Safari dialog box. JonathanPS: The quick test I was suggesting was File... New Private Window, not File... New Window.
Tony Whitley
Wonder what would happen if I removed them all.I did it yesterday, it just means I have to log on again on the sites where I didn't have to before because I'd clicked "Keep me logged in". Carrotland AR
File... New Private Window, not File... New Window.Oops, must break the "speed read" habit. No harm done, but will try that next time. ThanksThanks Jonathan and Tony for your help and suggestions.I'll clear mine down when I get a mo. I'm not worried about the staying logged in bit. Presumably stored passwords on the Macbook will remain?Thnaks againSteve W
Member Jonathan Kay Posted December 11, 2019 Member Share Posted December 11, 2019 Presumably stored passwords on the Macbook will remain? That was the bit about which I was uncertain. I don't fully understand the difference between using Safari and using Keychain to manage passwords. Some cookies might store usernames and passwords in which case deleting the cookie will lose them. Tony? You won't lose any Keychain passwords.Jonathan
Tony Whitley
Indeed, I was logged out everywhere but the logins and passwords were remembered (by Firefox in my case) so I used them to log in again. I also ticked "Please keep me logged in" which had also been cleared.
Area Representative Steve Wright Posted December 13, 2019 Area Representative Share Posted December 13, 2019 Took a backup. Took a deep breath, and just did it.All ok. Logged out of all sites, but stored passwords were remembered so all good. Thanks for your help Jonathan and Tony.
