Tony Leigh
Just taken my new car (build completed and registered in mid-September) out in the dark for the first time and the rocker switches on the far left (hazard warning, fog lamp and heated screen) do not light up when lights are on. They do light up when switched on and work. All the other lights on the rocker switches light up when lights are on and not activated. I guess this isn’t correct, but thought I would check, and then if this is the case any ideas as to what to check?Tony
SM25T
Many do not light up with the car lights

Tony Leigh
Thanks for your replies. It looks like my car dash lights are normal.
ChrisC
Actually thats by design, the Hazards have to light up, its an IVA requirement, you also need a warning light for the fog light. The heated windscreen would be difficult to tell if its on or off without the warning light. The wipers and washer on the other hand can be seen working from the driver seat, so there is no need for the warning light, so they light up with the lights. I guess the fan also falls into that category.
Tony Leigh
Thanks ChrisC, I can see how that makes sense, but it is difficult to see what each of the 3 unlit switches operate when it’s really dark (no moon or street lights, like it was tonight). Had to get my son to use his phone torch so I could turn on heated windscreen, but I guess you get used to what they do with use.
Stridey
You can buy the little bulbs in bulk, I replaced a couple that had blown on various rocker switches over time. Can be worth checking. You do need to dis-assemble the switch but it's pretty simple.
Tony Leigh
Thanks Stridey, the lights on my switches do work when turned on (so lamps must be ok), it’s just that they don’t light up when not ‘on’ and lights are on, but as per ChrisC’s reply that is by design for the 3 switches (hazards, fog lamp, and heated screen) on left hand side. John Vine
If it helps, this is how the dash lighting works on my 2008 R400D (updated following comment in post #11):JV
Bricol
The bulb in your hazard switch is blown or the connections loose - it should flash when ON in time with the external lights
Jonathan Kay
Good point. Just checked my 1998 K... and it flashes in time. (I had wondered if it was different in Sevens with only one indicator warning light and the associated funny circuit.)Jonathan
John Vine
Re #11:I've just checked and you're absolutely right. It flashes as you say. I can only assume that trusty Eric at Millwoods replaced the bulb during a service some time after I drew up my original chart. I'll update it.JV
