anthonym
I am on my last set of CR500s... which are probably now a bit old already.and ZZRs.. any road utility?I gather ZZx tyres are heavier. Are the sidewalls also stiffer? I am of course accustomed to my CR500 tyres having been specifically designed for my R500 car, so not enthusiastic about in future having to use what amount to generics. Has 20 years allowed advances relevant for me and my car? Anthony
rj
I've found my car to be faster on the circuit using ZZS rather than ZZRs under most conditions. It could be due to setup of the car.Being wilder may need you to re-set the rake and maybe to add a little more toe-out to make the car want to turn in again. StevehS3
The only downside to ZZS that I've noticed is the weight. I think they are a bit better all-round than CR500. Wet grip seems surprisingly good and they don't crack!
John Vine
Width (at the front) wasn't a problem on my R400D when I changed from CR500 (195/45-R15) to ZZS (195/50-R15). To my surprise, the ZZSs just squeeze under the wings, as the shoulders are more sloping than the CR500.Also discussed here.JV
anthonym
175 to185 seems to be the increase, or 12mm i i u c. I have added specs to the o.p.190mm to 202mmmy CR500s have never cracked a f a i k. Possibly lucky as regards storage.
John Vine
These were my CR500 cracks (in 2017, on 4yo tyres): Apparently, the cracks are just cosmetic, although they'd likely have failed an MOT due to the carcass being visible. To their credit, Avon were very responsive. ScottR400D
I have ZZRs on my 2015 R400D. When I got the car it had CR500s but I also had a set of ZZRs on other rims for on track. The car was set up for the ZZR and wasn’t much changed for road use with the CRs. I just altered the toe and camber. (With the track settings for ZZRs I found it twitchy and susceptible to tramlining on the road)I now run ZZR all the time and avoid the rain. I’ve fitted JWM rose jointed top joints so it’s a quick job to go from high camber/toe out to less camber and parallel which I find better on road. The ZZRs do weigh more and ride harder, especially when new, so I guess they are stiffer. No problem with clearance.

ScottR400D
Never used ZZS, I guess they must be better at shifting water.

anthonym
Update: I am told from within the industry (he says nebulously) that "we" are waiting for the desired tyre to be made available in 13", which is the Yokohama 52 which sofar as I can see is a reference to this: https://www.reifen-pneus-online.ch/pkw-reifen/yokohama/advan-a052/#17-zolli.e Yoko AO52 in 13".Pic of 14"
sjmmarsh
Anthonymi am at the same point with my CSR260. I’ve managed to stay with CR500s until now, but now need to make the switch. Only rears at the moment, so don’t have the problem of trying to fit the higher profile ZZS tyres under the CSR front wings! I reckon I have another 2-3k miles left in the fronts. anthonym
I am curious about the Yoko 52s - available in all except 13" and that is promised soon apparently. I am thinking of putting my BDR back on its 15" wheels so I can try these.
