CageyH
I am looking for dial test gauge recommendations for cam timing on my K series.Obviously, I have seen the DVA recommendations, but the prices have changed considerably from what I have found. What is a good, budget set of gauges to use? John Vine
I have the gauges that DVA recommended (one analogue for TDC and one digital for the tappets). You can get by with just one digital gauge if you do the inlet cam first and then the exhaust. If it helps, you can borrow mine (including mounting brackets and TDC rod) if you're happy to pay return postage and insurance UK-France. (Not available until November, however.)JV

oilyhands
Fleabay do some very good cheap digital DTI gauges (see item no. 173943235933) you only need 12mm range, you really need an analogue gauge with a needle for the TDC gauge (see item no. 163744473614) or its very easy to get confused over where TDC is.Oily
CageyH
Thanks for the suggestions. I shall have a look into all the options.
EEK
@ John Vine - no I had an analogue gauge from my Lotus Twin cam Dutton miss spent youth for TDC :-)
anthonym
Fashioning the brackets is fun, I used 2.5mm ally instead which is easier to bend without forming tools.
oilyhands
Ally is fine if the brackets just see occasional use, they will soon degrade if they are used on a regular basis.Oily
TomB
A couple of good links for gauges thanks chaps. Has anyone have any drawings for the brackets? I can only bend and cut ally with tin snips, hacksaws and a vice, so I would need something fairly simple. Then I can make my own kit for timing the cams and won’t need to bed and borrow every 4 years for a belt change.
