DaveMorris
Could anyone explain why some 16v Vx Rocker Covers have this type of small baffle (small one)Whereas others have a full plate that looks like this and covers the majority of the cover . .And more importantly - what version should a dry sumped engine have ? Thanks in advance, Dave.
DaveMorris
Ahh - further research shows that the small plate is probably the SBD mod for "high revving wet sumped engines"Link http://www.sbdev.co.uk/Info_sheets/Oil_systems/VX%202L%20SBD%20Cam%20cover%20breathing%20modification.pdfBut still don't know what is best to use on a D/S engine.D. ECR
The small plate The oe (large) plate holds too much oil in it. The small plate allows oil to drain back to the sump at higher revs ....
DaveMorris
That's good enough for me. Thanks Roger. Can now go and refit rocker cover so she's all boxed up for the night.
Kpcseven
So a question, what was the purpose of all of the rest of the plate that is now discarded?
ECR
The OE baffle plate is there to condense oil vapour which it does effectveley on a standard engine. In the Seven install, the engine generally revs a lot higher than "normal" and the baffle plate isn't able to cope with it. This results in a greater amount of vapour/oil being dumped in the now "non standard" catch tank. There is also probably(but I can't remember) a re breathing system on the OE install instead of the Caterham catch tank.

ECR
Its a good mod on wet sumped engines and works the same on dry sumped ones
