nic.day
Hey guys, I have replaced the head gasket on my R500K recently (milkshake etc) and replaced with a DVA special.Recently I have noticed oil in the expansion tank, but not in the overflow or any milkshake on the oil cap.I first thought it was remnants of the issue before, but now it seems to be more of it. Its pure oil as well and not milkshake really. I have sucked out as much as I can and flushed through as much as I can a couple of time the cooling system. But its coming back. Getting nervous to drive the car now.Am I right in thinking as there (well I cannot see any) oil in the overflow or on the oil cap that it "might" not be the head gasket this time. As the oil is only as far as I can tell in the coolant expansion tank. Please be gentle as I am NOT mechanically minded really!!!!!!Can the oil cooler be tested or jsut replace??thanksNic
Area Representative Geoff Brown Posted August 8, 2019 Area Representative Share Posted August 8, 2019 Is the oil cooler on a 500K water cooled? That is the impression you give as I thought oil coolers were air cooled. If that is the case then a water way in the jacket has collapsed or pin holed.Just replace it. nic.day
Thanks Geoff,I don’t know. I am not near the car, but thinking of the problem and hopefully the solution back this weekend and hopefully find some information
p.mole1
Unless you have a laminova style oil cooler, the oil cannot come from the oil cooler. Did you flush out your cooling system after you changed the head gasket?
JonT
Have you mixed coolant types? AIUI that can cause gunk that doesn't look unlike HGF.
nic.day
Yes flushed through quiet a few timeNo, not mixed coolantIts oil - no doubt about it. Had a couple of suggestions on FB and words of wisdom is a hairline crack in the oil way in the block.I am not having much luck with this oil and water!! p.mole1
I would think it is more likely a gasket problem, did you use the elastomer blue gasket and the steel dowels
