abbot
Can anyone recommend a good source for a replacement radiator cap for a 1700 SS crossflow. I rather stupidly was inspecting mine and managed to damage the rubber seal. I went to a motor factor in Paris who was very helpful but finally only able to find something that looked like a cheap version. It fitted ok but yesterday I was out for a blat and after giving it some beans it spat water out through bonnet vents.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted August 4, 2019 Member Share Posted August 4, 2019 Part number and a substitute from 2015.Which would lead to: https://www.google.com/search?q=cap+motorcraft+1613292. Some of those hits also give the Ford car on which it was used, and some parts stores only offer that way to search.Jonathan
abbot
Thanks Jonathan, I did try a Google search in fact that is where i got the image from. The problem is that when I have gone to the next stage they seem to go to plastic caps or thangs that I am not sure are thhe same. I tried Burton Power and nothing is obviously the same, I was looking fro a Ford verison of Rimmer brothers where I could eee the part and buy it.I have tried a local Ford garage but the boy there had no idea what I was talking about when I started to explain it was from an old Escort or Capri. Wrightpayne
I found one for Tazio recently for his BDR as the standard type wont fit as the head in the way! I’ll see if he has the supplier details
Tazio
As Ian said, I bought this off ebay for my BDR. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Ford-Motorcraft-Radiator-Cap-Plug-1613292/182410844599?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649.The ebay advert includes the manufacturers numbers so it may be available from a ford dealer if he recognises the Ford part number of 1613292

Tazio
I would have thought that your local Ford dealers should be able to provide, as the ebay seller is in fact the Ford dealer in Daventry.

abbot
Just been to the biggest Ford Dealer in the area. As usual the starting point was "Have you got the CG (V5)" i explained it would not be much use. I showed him the picture from the E-Bay page with the Ford number and he at least did a good search of the system but the computer said NO. I explained what the car was and the various old Ford cars that might have th right part ie early Escort, Capri but nothing. He tried to explain that the car should have come with a parts catalogue At leats he took my number and said he would make some calls tomorrow to see what he can find. anthonym
Whats 0.1 kg in psi ? suspect 14.223 psi but not sure
Member Jonathan Kay Posted October 8, 2023 Member Share Posted October 8, 2023 The kilogram is a unit of mass. The psi is a unit of pressure. They can't be converted. 1 bar is about 14.5 psi. What's the problem that you're trying to solve?Jonathan
anthonym
The unit quoted on the above packaging is 0.1 kg and I al looking for the rating of this cap. 13psi is our recommended. So that 0.1 kg may be the weight of the part (100 grammes) or per sq metre id 14.33 psi which seems s bit of a co incidence

anthonym
The item in its box weighs about .8kg so I reckon the .1 kg is the weight not the rate(ing). I phoned a Ford parts supplier who could see the part on their system, but no rating, though he did use the term "red" so I am wondering if Ford colour code their ratings.
