Member Jonathan Kay Posted July 30, 2019 Member Share Posted July 30, 2019 Just been through the reference books... electric fan was first fitted in 1962 but beyond that nothing.Jonathan
vfr13
Thanks Jonathan. It is a later version. Can find it on a S2 part list shown in Tony Weale's Lotus Seven book. The brackets are directly welded to the frame. Parts no. 68 and
Duckpit
Hi VolkerThis is the same useless fan i have in my lotus S3The good news is that it is also the same fan in my 95 Supersprint heater, so you may be able to source that from Redline or even caterhamI may have a seized one if you are out of luck. On my S3 I use the old fan and also a new one on the other side of the radiator and it keeps the car coolNick
vfr13
Hi Nickthanks for your reply. You are right, the radiator is quite useless. I have the same idea to combine it with a modern version from radiator back side. But also want to keep the look as original as possible.Today I drive a 1989 Caterham with a similar fan motor and blade. (seems to be from an early Ford Fiesta). Also has 3 bolts but the pitch is different. The distance of the bolts is much bigger in the 1989 version. Here a sketch with some dimensions.Sorry, could not load it in the right rotation, It should be rotated by 90 degrees. Dimensions are in mm ;-)That's the reason why I am asking.Maybe the brackets can be bended to the right distance. But this will look quite distorted and is only the third best solution for me. (The second best solution is removing the brackets and using only a modern fan on the back side of the radiator). So if anybody has a Series 2 to available with this kind of cooling fan and can help me with a part-number imprinted on the motor, that would be great. Duckpit
I have a friend nearby with an S2 . I will ask him to respond. Personally i would put in what you can but leave it disconnected and put a new one the other side. If its not working pitch doesnt matter
vfr13
Hi Nick, that's perfect. Would be awesome, if your friend can help.I see that you are practical oriented. I myself believe that right pitch of holes and bolts is important for a good look at all. Maybe I am to much a perfectionist as old school German mechanical engineer. But there is also the possibility, that the brackets are not fixed at the right position.By the way: regarding motor I already asked Chris from Redline. There is no version available that fits. Duckpit
Volker Looking at your picture, the motor is correct , the holes are correct, and the fan is the right way round but your fan has too many blades. I would think the fan has been changed to improve air flow What engine have u got there? Nick

Paul Thompson
It is indeed a heater fan Maybe Ford 105E and as you say useless. I would suggest you put a modern electric fan behind the radiator to suck the hot air away if you can also it is worthwhile recoring the radiator.i will post a picture of the one on my S2 SB 1930 when I get home from holiday next week if it would help you. vfr13
Hi NickThe picture I took out of a book. It is not my one.Can you please measure the distance of the bolts? And look whether any signs are on the motor. Also now I understand why it not very effective. Looks not very powerful. Here a picture of my chassis. Duckpit
Across top I have 75mm and other 2 are 90No markings on motor , but this looks very similar but no idea of sizehttps://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-F100-65-79-Heater-blower-motor-hotrod-classic-car/273858466650?hash=item3fc33c935a:g:vywAAOSwtOZcgUWR
vfr13
Nick, thanks for doing this all for me.Looking at the dimensions I am sure that this would fit to my car, too. The brackets can be adapted to 75 and 90.Only need to find out where the motor is coming from. The motor from ebay seems not to fit. I think that at least power will not be enough. And also it has no holding frame. But this could be solved with some additional work.Hope that somebody is reading this who has an information about the source. You asked for the engine: not decided yet. Have both available: Kent Crossflow and TC. Will be at least a Series 2.5.

Schnitzel
Hallo Volker, den richtigen Motor incl. Lüfterblatt sollte ich haben in meinem Fundus.
vfr13
@Schnitzel: Perfect, than I take it. Will call you.And you are right. The motor of the Seven heater system fits. Unfortunately, in the version that I have from my S3, blades are made out of plastics. So still need some made out of Aluminum.Nicks proposal for a motor from a heater system was quite near to real installation. Could not believe that this should really be used that time.
