fatal3rror
I have just been replacing the rear brake pads on my 2003 S3 for the first time since I bought the car last year. Before I assemble the rear brake caliper back again, couple of questions:1) Should I be lubricating the sliding mechanism on the caliper? If so, is it recommended to just use normal grease?2) There isn't a lot of space behind the retaining bolt for my torque wrench because of the wing? Do people use a smaller torque wrench or any other ideas?EDIT: Spring changed to sliding
SM25T
You mean the handbrake spring coil ? I tend to put a spot of ACF50 on it and a squirt of anti corrosion wax. I just do the bolts tight by hand on a ratchet
fatal3rror
No, I meant the sliding mechanism, what is shown as A in this image here:http://www.alcester-racing-sevens.com/Rear_Pad_Change_1.JPG
SM25T
You said spring. The coil spring shown is the handbrake. The slider pins run in rubber sleeves ... should be lubricated with rubber friendly grease ... you can buy sachets of it in car spares shops.
