patibbitts
The rear fog light isn't working, as I've recently purchased the car and not actually driven it yet, I've been rectifing all the electrical 'gremlins' associated to lack of use. The indicators were in a similar state, but the constant switching on/off of the Hazard switch cured these (as advised upon checking the forum for relative answers ). Q: is there a similar fix for the fog light? Q: I assume the dash mounted fog light switch is the toggle switch next to the indicator toggle? Any help appreciated,
Jim 123
Sanity check, have you put the headlights on before attempting the fog?
patibbitts
Jim, thanks for the reply - yes headlights on - tried both dipped and main, but no go. All other circuits working OK. ??
StevehS3
Not sure but I think the ignition needs to be on. Otherwise, crappy connections in the light fitting.
SM25T
Or earth connection. Do need ignition on and dipped headlights.
John Vine
Have you checked the fuse?Fog light should come on with ignition on or off. Also, on dipped or main beam (at least, my 2008 R400D does).JV
John Vine
Q: I assume the dash mounted fog light switch is the toggle switch next to the indicator toggle? It's the toggle switch to the left of the fuel gauge. Third one along from the left:JV
John Vine
Sounds as though you don't have a Handbook? If you'd like one, send a message to Jonathan Kay with your email address, and model and year of your 7. I'm sure he'll be able to send you a suitable PDF.JV
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted July 13, 2019 Area Representative Share Posted July 13, 2019 Fog light next to fuel gauge. On older cars only works on dipped headlights.
Gordon GWF
I noticed from your earlier question about the manual cam belt tensioner that yours may be an earlier car. Just checked my 1997 anniversary K and the rear fog light only works on dip beam with ignition on or off.
patibbitts
Resolution as promised - however I must admit I feel a bit of a fool! - the toggle switch I thought was the Fog light switch wasn't! The fog light switch and light work OK (only on dipped beam - as suggested) - but the other 'flick switch' next to the indicator flick switch, is the one that still remains a mystery switch. Q: any ideas what this switch does? (it's a Single action on/off). Embarrassed,

ECR
Is this an extra switch fitted by previous owner? If it is it could be a switch to select oil temperature or water temperature. Does the temperature gauge change when you operate it (the car needs to be warmed up to check this).
patibbitts
Oh, great answers - I 'll check as soon as I get the car running again - thanks!
SM25T
If it is by the water temperature gauge, it is probably to select oil temperature instead of water ... on the same gauge.
John Vine
If ECR and SM25T are correct (and I'm sure they are), your car will be fitted with an Apollo. This is a cylindrical alloy tank installed at the front of the engine, designed to de-aerate the oil (see here). It will have two large oil hoses connected to a sandwich plate at the oil filter housing, plus a thinner braided hose leading to the cam cover.About halfway down the tank, there'll be a temperature sender, with a wire leading to your "mystery switch". A second input wire at this switch will be from the water temperature sender in the water rail, and the common (output) wire will lead to the temperature gauge. With this set-up, you can display oil and water temps alternately on the same gauge. It's a common mod on Apollo-equipped cars.JV
