Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted July 7, 2019 Leadership Team Share Posted July 7, 2019 I'm pretty sure that unlike the WOSP or Brise starters the Powerlite doesn't have a multi-position mounting flange enabling the fitting to be adjusted a little ... so there's probably nothing you can do.Stu. jonathantennantbtinternet
There's two bolts, and if you remove the bolts you can revolve the flange by 180 degrees ... but it still doesnt fit due to the webbing of the engine. Unless I grind it down .
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted July 8, 2019 Leadership Team Share Posted July 8, 2019 The WOSP and Brise both have multiple holes in the mounting flange enabling the starter to be rotated in small increments to achieve the best position, maybe try the Powerlite without the flange bolts fitted and see if you can find a suitable position with your particular primaries ... and drill new holes? I recall in my '95 car the primaries were swept downwards not leaving much space for the starter, my '99 car has no.4 primary shaped specifically to give better starter clearance. This is the flange on the WOSP starter ... Steve Sheldon
Hello Jonathanhttps://powerlite-units.comI would call the Powerlite guys direct - they are very helpful. They manufacture the motors and are very familiar with Caterham installations.01384 74552

jonathantennantbtinternet
Steve, Spoke to them and they were as helpful as a chocolate tea pot. I also asked if they had any pictures or diagrams ......nope.They are however swopping the unit for a MS version, like the Wasp. Jon
jonathantennantbtinternet
Yes, but I bought the RAC430 from Seven & Classics , Tim says he doesn't have an issue. I think he fits the MC version .
mjdm
I have a Powerlite fitted to my K series. Currently I have the R500K exhaust and there is plenty of clearance to the primaries with the solenoid of the starter motor sitting at the top.Previously I had the older 4-1 Superlight exhaust and this did have interference on one of the primaries. Rather brutally I knocked a small dent into the primary to give me clearance. Didn't seem to affect engine running at all and allowed me to fit the starter motor with solenoid uppermost.Mike

jonathantennantbtinternet
Thought there might have been a few more owners who could advice me but many thanks for the gentleman who posted. After swopping the Powerlite for the multi fitment one, I fitted it but I couldn't fit the manifold and when I turned the starter to a different position I managed to fit the manifold but couldn't fit the starter as it was rubbing on the engine block.Gave up and it's now in the hands of Seven & Classics.
