Widetrack Damper - Extension Removal

Paul-R

Recommended Posts

Recently purchased a (secondhand) set of widetrack front dampers to fit my standard track car. The plan was to remove the extension to allow them to fit.

Apparentley, this is more difficult than I originally anticipated.

Any advise on how this can be done would be gratefully received.

You need to put the chrome rod / piston of the damper in a press and then using a very long spanner undo the extension - they are originally fitted with loctite .

I tried clamping the rod in my vice with some ally sleeves ( not to damage the rod / piston ) and my wortkbench decided to roll over and die before the extension gave up 😬 . I ended thking them to work and having 300lb++/ft exerted and then then came off ....
