K7 VCT
Hi all, anyone out there used or have any views on the brake kits they offer, big savings over caterham own big brake kit for similar spec. Thanks
TomB
I think these are rebadged Canley Classic brakes, which are a lower cost version of the AP brakes. Have a look at Canley Classics.
ChrisC
Also the pictured calipers won't fit cars post 2014, when Caterham made the switch to radial mounted front calipers. Looking at your profile picture this might be a problem for your car.
rj
Nor do I think the AP brakes would unless you also change the uprights. I could be mistaken though.
Area Representative Andrew Gilbert Posted June 4, 2019 Area Representative Share Posted June 4, 2019 I'd drop Jack a line and ask, seems to be a very knowledgeable guy.
K7 VCT
Yes my car is a 2014 factory built car, thanks for your help guys. Will contact him jackwebb motorsport.
ChrisC
So you have radial calipers, therefore the calipers pictured on Jackwebb Motorsport’s website won’t fit.

K7 VCT
My calipers must have been the last ones of the old type.... not the AP standard ones.
7 wonders of the world
any reason your looking ar the big brake kit.....?Are you lacking in braking performance now ...? Theres a lot of room for upgrades without raping your bank account and adding significant chunks of unsprung weight to your car...
BigCol
If you do want better-than-standard brakes, look at HiSpec’s products... much lighter and better value than the other options too...

TomB
Thirded! I replaced my standard two pot cast iron Girling callipers with the 4 pot HiSpec calliper. I wasn’t particularly looking for more braking, but what attracted me was the 2kg unsprung weight saving on each side of the car. I retained the standard brake disc and for road use it’s perfect. I haven’t tracked it since I did the conversion. Opinion has it that the big brakes aren’t really needed on the road.
7 wonders of the world
Forth that...!I run Hi Spec all round 4 pot front and 2 pot SVA rear on stock 9" discs with DS3000......
elie boone
Fifth that, and on top of that the brake feel with 4 pots om std front disc's are much better. And there front vented disc's is much cheaper even with the first purchase of the alloy bell.
Mark_
Interesting to see Hispec getting a mention.Im sure I read recently, HiSpec calipers didnt have anough meat in the caliper and could flex and thus be no better than stock.I tracked a Fury9R with HS radial calipers, and the brakes on that were megam so I did consider them an option for my 7 , until I read the comments mentioned.Anyone actually link to which caliper from HS they are using and also mention which pads and std or AP Master ?TIA ! TomB
Hispec Ultralite 4http://www.hispeccalipers.co.uk/ultralite-4.htmlI’ve got these on standard front discs, with standard rear. I had heard the tales of flexing, but this appeared to be heavy track use. The guy I bought them off hill climbed, so he was full speed then standing on the brakes., with non on the tapering or moderation of the brakes. I think he mentioned something about flexing, but in my road use, I’ve not had any problems. Mine are also an older version, and I suspect they have beefed up the design.I was attracted to them by the unsprung weight saving - they weight a third of the standard Triumph cast iron callipers, coupled with fitting CR500 tyres at the same time, the reduction in weight was noticeable. The car felt lighter, more nimble at the front and less crashy on bumps, potholes etc. I think the product is good, but I’ve heard variable reviews in dealing direct with HiSpec. You may be best going through another supplier who can have the headache of dealing with HSpec on your behalf.
Mark_
Yeah, Ive heard the main guy at HS can be a knob....The calipers themselves did need some machining to fit correctly at the time.
Tony Whitley
Yeah, I’ve heard the same about the senior guy at JWM...
K7 VCT
All this is lots to think about, so would i need the AP master cylinder or not ? The high spec kit seems a better value, but the jack Webb kit is vented discs...
