p.mole1
2 of my wheels have around 0.8mm of lateral run out if I use these wheels on the front I can feel it through the steering. It doesn't look as if they have ever suffered any damage and may just be a case of poor machining. I wonder if they could be straightened or trued up by having the hub face machined, or straightened by force?. Has anyone any experience of this? You probably wouldn't notice it on a tintop. I have a new set of tyres to go and was going to get them powder coated. You can't buy 2 gates wheels anymore, and maybe new ones would be no better. LazerBrain
I have some 14" wheels from my previous 7 in the garage, and I think some are 2 gates. Is it possible to measure the runout with a tyre in place, and without bolting it the car? cheers,Darren.
p.mole1
Hi Darren,I'm measuring the run out at the edge of the rim, the tyre is still on. However I am going to remove the tyre from the spare and I will check the wheel without the tyre. You really need to bolt the wheel to hub to check and use a dial gauge, I did check the hub first!
